Falmouth Selectman Announces Run for State Senate

FALMOUTH – Falmouth Selectman Susan Moran has announced her bid for the Plymouth-Barnstable State Senate seat soon to be vacated by Sen. Vinny deMacedo.

“After serving locally and regionally on the Cape, I’ve been looking at the senate seat as really the place to get the funding for all the programs that I’ve been working on locally,” said Moran.

“Really work with the governor and the Cape legislators on the implementation of programs that people really want to see.”

Moran has served both as a Falmouth selectman and as a member of the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates, and touts her experience as a lawyer and small business owner on Cape Cod.

“It gives me a good background with working with all kinds of people. I’ve mediated litigations that have come out with better results than you might get in court. I think that when you look at a strong fighter for an initiative, you want someone with that litigation background, but that doesn’t mean everything is disputatious. Advocacy can be just as much an art as it can be a push,” she said.

Although deMacedo has yet to formally resign, Moran is the second Democrat to announce her candidacy, the other being Pembroke attorney Becky Coletta.

DeMacedo will soon become the Director of Regional Partnerships for Bridgewater State, in which he will connect the school’s resources with regional needs.

In the new role, deMacedo will also connect students with paid internships and collaborate to advance the university’s interests in the state.

Moran said she intended to prioritize solving local issues when it comes to her focus as senator.

“Among the most important are affordable housing, clean water, good schools, veteran’s services, all of those have a lifestyle impact on people every single day,” she said.

“I think that’s why folks would vote for me. Those would be among the chief things I’m pressing forward.”
