Senate Set to Pass Temporary Spending Bill

AP LogoWASHINGTON (AP) — Lawmakers are trying to prevent a partial government shutdown at midnight tomorrow.

The Senate is expected today to approve a bipartisan temporary spending bill that does not include cancelling federal funding of Planned Parenthood.

Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the bill is “the only viable way forward in the short term,” but tea partyers have been fighting to defund the organization, even at the risk of a government shutdown.

A vote yesterday easily broke a filibuster threat and set up a final vote.
