YMCA Cape Cod to Hold Session on Sepsis Tuesday

BARNSTABLE – Sepsis Smart, a campaign to raise public awareness of sepsis, will take place Tuesday at YMCA Cape Cod.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by the body’s overwhelming response to infection.

Every two minutes someone dies from sepsis in the United States.

That’s more than from prostate cancer, breast cancer, and AIDS combined.

The condition affects tens of thousands of people in the Commonwealth each year, but more than one-third of adults have never heard of it and the majority cannot identify its symptoms.

Sepsis Smart aims to save lives by the spreading the word about this life-threatening condition.

Gerry Bedard, a Yarmouth resident whose wife died of sepsis, will be at YMCA Cape Cod handing out information and talking to members about the signs and symptoms of the condition.

Sepsis Smart will be at YMC Cape Cod from 5 to 7 p.m.
