Series of Debates on Ballot Questions Kicks Off

BallotBOSTON (AP) — A series of debates focusing on the pros and cons of the four ballot questions facing Massachusetts voters in November kicks off this week.

The first debate is scheduled for Tuesday. It will focus on Question 2, which would allow for up to 12 new or expanded charter schools each year outside of existing state caps.

Former state Rep. Marty Walz will debate on behalf of supporters. Boston City Councilor Tito Jackson will represent opponents of the measure.

The other ballot questions include proposals to legalize recreational marijuana, ban the use of overly restrictive cages for farm animals and allow another slots gambling parlor in the state.

The debates at the University of Massachusetts’ McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies.
