Seven Cape Cod Communities Ready to Host Town Meetings Tonight

HARWICH – The spring town meeting season on Cape Cod kicks into high gear Monday night with 7 communities holding sessions.

Residents will decide on operating budgets, housing proposals and beach management, among a long list of issues.

Harwich, Bourne, Sandwich, Eastham, Mashpee, Orleans and Brewster will all convene town meetings this evening.

In Sandwich, voters will deal with the future of the Henry T. Wing School, funding for storm-battered beaches and whether to fund new recreation parks that will include pickleball.

Bourne residents will take action on a local tax for marijuana sales, money for new police cruisers and various zoning overlay changes.

Marijuana districts are on the warrant in Eastham, as is money for a new roof on the police station and $60,000 for repairs to the Eastham windmill.

In Orleans, the future of Nauset Beach will be on the agenda with money being sought for a master plan. Residents will also debate a ban on recreational marijuana shops and various zoning items.

Brewster residents will vote on an affordable housing project, the Pleasant Resources Management Plan and various land acquisition items.

In Harwich, town meeting will debate spending money for a pet crematorium at the current pet cemetery, money for the wastewater treatment plan and financing for a renovated East Harwich fire station.

Mashpee residents will decide on a $57 million operating budget and funding for a Habitat for Humanity project.
