HYANNIS – The Barnstable Licensing Authority held show cause hearings Monday for several bars and restaurants that allegedly sold alcohol to a minor during a summer sting.

The licensing authority, in partnership with Barnstable Police, held the operation on July 9 and 14.

They targeted 43 license holders as part of the annual operation that seeks to maintain compliance with liquor license laws.

The majority of the 7 license holders who appeared on Monday were given 1-day license suspensions, with 1-day held in abeyance for a year.

Officer Therese Gallant, the liaison to the board, said a 20-year-old decoy was sent into each establishment with a $20 bill and asked for Bud Light.

If the person was served the beer, he would bring it with the change from the purchase to officers waiting outside.

The officers then entered the bar and asked to speak with a manager to inform them about the alleged violation.

Every liquor license holder in Barnstable is notified each spring that enforcement activities will take place during the year.

They’re also required to attend a meeting to review the town’s regulations regarding liquor laws.

License holders that received 1 day suspensions included Lambert’s Rainbow Fruit in Centerville, Puff the Magic in Hyannis, Tiki Port in Hyannis, Fancy’s Market in Osterville and the Old Village Store in West Barnstable.

The Greenhouse Restaurant at the Holiday Inn in Hyannis received a 2-day suspension with 3 held in abeyance because of a previous violation.

Saga Fusion in Marstons Mills received a total of 3 days suspended and 4 days in abeyance, also due to a previous violation.
