WELLFLEET – The summer tourist season has passed but fall is still a great time to explore the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Rangers, volunteers and partner organizations are offering many programs throughout the rest of September.

Opportunities include short and long walks, cultural history talks, lighthouse tours, workshops and canoe tours.

Nauset Light in Eastham is open Sundays and Wednesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. in September. Highland Light in Truro is also open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – with the last tour beginning at 4:30.

Old Harbor Life-Saving Station in Provincetown is open daily from 2 to 4 p.m., with special family events on Saturday, September 14.

The Highland House Museum in Truro is open through September 28 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will feature a talk on Cape Air’s sustainable solutions on September 20 at 4 p.m.

The Captain Penniman House in Eastham and the Atwood-Higgins House in Wellfleet are open for tours each week.

Guided canoe trips on Salt Pond are also held several days a week through the month. Reservations are required and are accepted up to one week in advance.

Dr. Kathleen Bradgon will present “Early Encounters Before the First Encounter” on Sunday, September 15 at 2 p.m. at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. It is one of the many programs the national seashore will host to mark the anniversary of the arrival of the Mayflower in 1620, and the many dimensions of this story.

Dr. Michael Pregot will discuss “Cape Cod Sea Captains: A Dangerous Life” on September 22 at 2 p.m. at the Salt Pond Visitor Center, and the Cape Cod Cranberry Grower’s Association will present Cranberries 101 at Salt Pond on September 28 at 2 p.m.
