Sewer Construction Resumes in Chatham Today

CHATHAM – Sewer construction is set to resume in Chatham this week as part of the town’s Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan.

This phase of the project involves a continuation of sewer extensions in the Oyster Pond watershed. Work is expected to run from 7 AM through 5 PM until May, when the effort will be put on hold for the summer, and recommence after Labor Day.

Officials expect that construction on the area’s relatively short roads will impact traffic on each street anywhere from several days to up to three weeks at a time.

Construction is expected to begin today on Wheldon Way before moving to The Cornfield and Village Landing.

Additional roads contracted for work include Spinnaker Lane, Earle’s Way, Janes Way, Oyster Pong Furlong (drainage), Tabitha Terrace, Absegami Run, Oyster Bluff, Oyster Pond Lane, Independence Lane, Inlet Road, Grist Mill Lane, Tide Mill Lane, Wineberry Way, Shattuck Place and Shattuck Lane.

Further updates will be provided as the work progresses and Police details and signage will be in place to assist motorists.

Impacted roads will be open nights, weekends and holidays to all traffic. Work during the weeks of Christmas and News Year’s will be conducted Wednesday through Friday.
