CHATHAM –  Shark art in Chatham was apparently a hot item to steal last week.

Two sharks on display in front of the Eldredge Public Library were swiped – one late Thursday night and another late Saturday night.

The display, which includes 43 pieces of “shark art,” is a fundraising effort sponsored by the Chatham Merchants Association.

The first stolen shark, created by artist Rich Benson of Chatham, was located in nearby woods on Friday.

The copper shark taken Saturday night was found a short time later a few blocks from the library lawn with three people who allegedly took the piece of art.

Association board member Janice Rogers said she was reviewing video surveillance to see if all three men would be charged in the theft.
