CHATHAM – Five sharks were spotted in the area of Chatham on Monday, in a location that has become known as “Shark Cove.”
Researchers have given the name to an area south of the Chatham harbor inlet where shark sightings have become commonplace.
Cynthia Wigren, the founder of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, said activity in Shark Cove has picked up as of late.
“This season, it’s been a little be different where the beginning of the season the activity was further north, closer to Nauset Beach, and it’s only been within the last week that activity in Shark Cove is picking up.”
Researchers kicked off a five year population study of white sharks in the area earlier this summer
