Shark Sighting Closes 2 Chatham Beaches

CHATHAM – A pair of Chatham beaches have been closed Thursday afternoon due to a confirmed white shark sighting in the area.

Lighthouse Beach and Andrew Harding’s Beach, near Water Street, are closed until further notice.

The Chatham Harbormaster and shark tagging vessels are in the area monitoring the situation, according to Chatham police.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy’s Sharktivity app issued an alert inside the harbor near Lighthouse Beach.

Researchers with the Conservancy found a half-eaten seal floating in Chatham Harbor after a white shark predation north of Lighthouse Beach.
