Shark Spotted Off Barnstable Harbor, Cape Cod Canal

BARNSTABLE – Shark sightings continue across Cape Cod this week, just days after a New York man was apparently bitten by a great white shark off Longnook Beach in Truro.

The Barnstable Police Department issued an alert on Friday that a great white was spotted off Barnstable Harbor.

They urged all beachgoers at Sandy Neck and Millway to use caution. Barnstable Police, Fire and Natural Resources are monitoring the situation. Neighboring towns have also been notified.

Sandwich Police Chief Peter Wack said a fisherman reported seeing a great white shark two barrels out from the entrance to the Cape Cod Canal on Friday.

Swimmers are urged to stay safe by not swimming at dusk, dawn and avoid swimming near seals.
