Shark Tagged Off Cape Cod Makes Its Way Back to Region

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – A familiar visitor appears to be on her way back to Cape Cod.

Mary Lee, the 17-foot, 3,500 pound great white shark, was detected Wednesday off the coast of Atlantic City, New Jersey. Experts believe she will eventually end up off the coast of Cape Cod or Nantucket, as she has in years past.

Mary Lee was tagged off the Cape in 2012 by researchers, who have tracked her progress ever since.

Before being tracked off New Jersey, Mary Lee was spotted off the coast of Georgia in April.

She has become a popular figure on social media in recent years. A twitter account set up in her honor has more than 112,000 followers.

The page is run by researchers at Ocearch.
