TRURO – The 13th and 14th great white sharks of the year were tagged off the coast of Truro and Wellfleet Friday by state shark expert Dr. Greg Skomal.
The sharks were tagged within just a few hours of each other, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy
Skomal and the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy are in the middle of a 5-year white shark population study. Friday’s sharks measured twelve and 14 feet long, respectively.
Researchers tagged 24 great whites last year, which was an increase from 18 in 2014.
Meanwhile, three other sharks were spotted near Nauset Beach and Callanan’s Pass in Chatham Friday afternoon, according to the conservancy’s shark tracking app called “Sharktivity.”
