BARNSTABLE – Barnstable County Sheriff Jim Cummings presented Cape Cod Community College President John Cox with a Sheriff’s Citation for Excellence in Program Delivery and Partnerships with the Barnstable House of Corrections at an event on Thursday.
The college’s new corrections certificate program is the latest in a series of connections between the Sheriff’s Office.
“It’s a long standing relationship that we give students the opportunity to work in the facilities, gain some very valuable experience, it really helps them shape their decisions on where they want to end up professionally,” said Cox.
Students and faculty in the college’s Criminal Justice program attended the ceremony, which was held at the college’s Tilden Arts Center.
Cummings and Cox announced a new two-year Corrections Certificate program in May that started this fall.
“It’s a great opportunity to give folks that are coming from the college to see what it is like working inside a correctional facility and hopefully it’ll get their appetites so that it’s something they might want to follow up on as a career,” said Cummings.
