FALMOUTH – The Barnstable County Sheriff’s office filed criminal charges today against two female inmates believed to be in the possession of heroin.
The discovery was made last week after the two inmates spent time together awaiting trial in a Falmouth District Court holding cell.
Acting on a drug tip, the inmates were taken to the country sheriff’s office in Worcester where a high-tech scanner capable of detecting drugs was used.
The women were confronted with pictures of four small bags of heroin and one larger bag.
The sheriff’s office said the inmates admitted to having the drugs.
One of the inmates was allegedly carrying the four small bags, containing 11.4 grams, and the other inmate was in possession of the large bag, with 17.2 grams.
The Cape and Islands district attorney’s office will review the complaint.
Charges include possession and distribution of heroin and attempting to deliver drugs to a correctional institution.
