BARNSTABLE – Opponents of re-opening the West Barnstable Shooting Range are mobilizing their efforts in advance of the upcoming meeting of the Barnstable Town Council.

Hillary Sandler of West Barnstable, an opponent of re-opening the range, will join other residents in sending a letter to the town council asking the range to remain closed.

Opponents of the range say they want the land to remain as conservation land.

But Sandler of West Barnstable said there could be an alternative to the shooting range. She said the owners of a new gun shop in Hyannis have expressed interest in opening a range.

She called that a possible solution to the debate.

Opponents want the range to remain closed so it can be used as conservation land.

The Barnstable Town Council will have the issue on its agenda in August.
