In Sign of Growing Heroin Problem, 90 Overdoses Recorded in Falmouth This Year

heroin02FALMOUTH – Falmouth is just one of many Cape towns seeing an increase in heroin overdoses this year.

Police say as the end of the year approaches, they have responded to 90 overdoses in 2014.

Falmouth Police Chief Edward Dunne said that’s a significant uptick from 2013.

“It’s not just the police department’s issue. The community has to come together and solve this problem, because by the time we interact with these people, it’s too late,” Dunne said.

Dunne said the heroin epidemic is the biggest epidemic he’s encountered during his career in law enforcement, “It’s concerning. I know a lot of it is contributed to the addiction piece on this,” he said.

Falmouth firefighters have administered Narcan 127 times this year, he said.
