HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – A 20-year-old singer with ties to Martha’s Vineyard remains alive this week on the FOX Network television show American Idol.
Sonika Vaid is a graduate of Weston High School, but her family also owns a house in Vineyard Haven, where several of Vaid’s hometown promotional videos were recorded.
She survived elimination two weeks in a row thanks to “saves” that are allowed by the show’s judges.
Vaid’s most recent song was a version of Demi Lovato’s Let it Go from the movie Frozen.
American Idol is currently in its final season. On Thursday night’s episode, Vaid will be competing with the final five contestants to see who makes the show’s final four.
The last local resident who make a mark on American Idol was Siobhan Magnus of Marstons Mills who finished 6th in 2010.
