Six Rescued From Sinking Vessel Off Martha’s Vineyard

Sinking BoatMARTHA’S VINEYARD – Six people were rescued from a sinking vessel off the south coast of Martha’s Vineyard early Sunday morning.

Coast Guard crews from Station Menemsha and Air Station Cape Cod responded just before 9 a.m. when a distress call came in from the 32-foot Fast Line. A crack in the hull led to the flooding and on-board pumps were not able to keep up with the rate at which water was entering the boat.

About an hour later, the boaters were rescued and the vessel was placed under tow. Nobody was injured.  Crews were able to tow the Fast Line to its homeport, Bass River in South Yarmouth, safely.

On Saturday morning, four people were rescued from a boat in Vineyard Sound after a fire broke out. No injuries were reported.
