Social Media Comments Impacting Falmouth DPW & Contractors

FALMOUTH-  After recent discouraging posts on social media about contractor ‘North Turf of North Attleboro’ (the company tasked with the Sandwich Road and Trotting Park Field projects,) Falmouth DPW officials are asking the public to be mindful of what they write online.

“What concerns me about it is when we go out to bid, we are already caught with the procurement laws where you have to go with the lowest responsible bidder, we do the best we can, but what happens and what concerns me with this is that contractors are going to come out and they are going to see this. Anybody can get on and they can Yelp a contractor, and Yelp anybody else today… once that information is out there, it can never come back,” said Peter McConarty, Deputy DPW Director for Falmouth.

These negative posts have even made their way to Parks Superintendent Jeremiah Pearson, who physically went to the field to see how the project was progressing after the comments were made.

“What I think the discussion is doing is it’s actually 180 polarizing what we are trying to do in Falmouth. Contractors see this information they are not going to want to bid on our projects, they are not going to come into town. I just think it’s going to have a negative effect with us,” said McConarty.

As of now, even with the negative online comments, the project is going well according to the town.
