Southcoast Health and Care New England Submit First Filing for Affiliation

southcoast logoNEW BEDFORD – Southcoast Health and Care New England have submitted the first regulatory filing for a proposed affiliation.

The filing was a Notice of Material Change submitted to the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission.

The process will require two more filings in Massachusetts to the Department of Public Health. One is for Health Facility Licensure and the other is for a Determination of Need.

The organizations will also have make three filings in Rhode Island. Those include an application with the Department of Health for a Change in Effective Control, and two filings under the Hospital Conversions Act. One of those filings will be made to the Attorney General and the other will be submitted to the Department of Health.

The affiliation seeks to create a new organization to help better manage population health for patients, reduce the cost of care, invest in technology and attract top doctors and providers.

Southcoast Health is the parent company of Tobey Hospital in Wareham, Charlton Memorial Hosptial in Fall River and St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. The organization also runs Southcoast Behavioral Health in Dartmouth.

Care New England is the parent organization of Butler Hospital, Kent Hospital, Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island, Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island, the VNA of Care New England, The Providence Center, CNE Wellness Center and Integra.
