WAREHAM – Southcoast Health is offering free mammograms to uninsured women as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Screenings are being offered at 10 locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including Tobey Hospital in Wareham and Southcoast Health at Rosebrook in Wareham.
Officials say those without insurance have a significantly reduced chance of early detection, a critical part of successfully treating breast cancer. One out of every eight women will develop breast cancer over the age of 40.
Interested patients can call to schedule a mammogram at 800-276-0103. Appointments are necessary.
Officials will also offer help to patients interesting in applying for health insurance.
