Southcoast Health Recognized for Brain, Spinal Care

NEW BEDFORD – The parent company of Tobey Hospital in Wareham has been recognized for its neurosurgery and spinal care by a medical publication.

Becker’s Hospital Review has named Southcoast Health as one of the top 100 hospitals and health systems in the nation for spine programs and neurosurgery.

“I’m incredible thankful for the excellent work which is done in our Brain and Spine Center on a daily basis,” said Dr. Richard Miller, Physician-in-Chief of the Surgical Care Center at Southcoast Health. “Being named to the list by Becker’s is a public recognition of what we know internally: the right physician leaders can drive clinical excellence.”

This marks the second time in the last four years that Southcoast has made the list.

“Receiving this distinction for a second time in four years reconfirms the dedication of our staff to our mission at the Southcoast Brain and Spine Center,” said Dr. Matthew Phillips, the director of the program. “That mission has always been to provide our community with the highest quality care in the most efficient and compassionate manner.”

5 other New England hospitals made the list, including Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s, Massachusetts General Hospital, University of Vermont Medical Center, and Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Southcoast also operates St. Luke’s in New Bedford and Charlton Memorial in Fall River.
