Spend Halloween in Cape Cod’s Most Haunted Village

It’s been well documented that Barnstable Village is the most haunted place on Cape Cod. So it’s no wonder that the Cape and Island Paranormal Research Society or CAIPRS bases their tours around the historic buildings lining 6A.

CAIPRS offers 3 tours, none of which are the for the faint of heart. Bookings can be taken on the website, but there’s always a chance if you turn up early on the night of the tour you can join a group.

The Haunted History Tour whisks you through the historic and very haunted “Old Kings Highway” in Barnstable Village. You’ll hear stories of the conflict between the Loyalists and the American Whigs or Patriots and how England had a stronghold on the small quaint town. Although the village is small there are eight documented haunted locations.

The tour takes you to Cobb’s Hill Cemetery where many strange and unusual things have taken place. Other stops include the Barnstable Tavern and Restaurant where a mischievous specter lurks in the dining room. It culminates in a stop at the darkened “Old Jail” built in the 1690s by the order of Massachusetts Bay Colony Courts, which is heavily haunted.

The Ghost Hunter’s Tour is perfect for the budding paranormal investigator or tour goers wanting an interactive experience. You are encouraged to bring a camera or voice recorder to capture any spirit activity. You’ll take part in a walking tour of Barnstable Village with a professional Ghost Hunter.

Stops include Cobb Hill Cemetery, Crocker Tavern, Barnstable Court House and more. In addition, you hearing spooky tales you’ll also receive instructions on how to do Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVPs) and sensory equipment to detect paranormal activity. Over the years several tour goers have been able to record their own paranormal events.

A romantic evening out with a twist, CAIPRS hosts a couples themed tour called I Love You to the Death for the non-traditionals out there.  You and a guest will enjoy a 90 minute walking tour of the haunted historic Barnstable Village where you’ll hear about heartbreak and love lost. It will include tales of the Revolutionary War when relationships were tested, wives forgotten, and lovers who never gave up home.

You’ll visit a cemetery where you may even hear souls of those left behind and you’ll finish in front of the most haunted building on Cape Cod. The night ends with you and your guest sipping champagne and enjoying dessert in a haunted restaurant. That’s a date the two of you won’t soon forget!

Whether you’re looking for a unique date night, want to learn more about the history of a haunted area or fancy yourself a bit of a ghost hunter you’ll find it all in Barnstable Village. This Halloween enjoy the best haunts Cape Cod has to offer and learn a bit about the inhabitants in the spookiest village on the Cape.
