WOODS HOLE – The search for the Steamship Authority’s next General Manager could be someone from inside its own ranks.
Steamship Authority Treasurer Robert Davis is the top candidate to succeed current General Manager Wayne Lamson who is retiring in June.
“He’s been with the Authority for 30 years, the last 12 years as the Authority’s Treasurer, so he’s intimately involved with all aspects of the operations,” said Lamson.
At a recent board meeting, the internal search committee recommended Davis for the position after they reviewed the number of internal candidates who applied.
A public meeting with the boat line governors is scheduled soon to interview Davis and/or appoint him, but the governors could also choose to open up an external search for other candidates.
The search committee conducted interviews with the internal candidates last month and set an initial annual salary for the next general manager at $175,000.
Lamson adds that with the Woods Hole terminal reconstruction project it makes sense to have someone with the appropriate experience to be General Manager.
“It’s going to be a big change for the Authority and I think it would help to have somebody that has the knowledge of the operations as we go through this busy period before us,” said Lamson.
