St. Patty’s Grand Marshal Announced

YARMOUTH – The Grand Marshal for this year’s Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been announced, it will be retired Yarmouth Police K-9 Officer Peter McClelland. This year’s Parade is in honor of slain Yarmouth Police Sergeant Sean Gannon, who marched with his K-9 partner Nero in last year’s parade.

McClelland trained Nero and immediately responded when the dog was hospitalized after being shot in the April incident that saw Sgt. Gannon killed. McClelland stayed with the dog throughout his surgery and six day ordeal recovering in the ICU.

McClelland then nursed Nero though his recovery that took several months. Nero has since retired and is living with the Gannon family. Parade organizers say McClelland encompasses all aspects of this year’s theme for the parade, which is the “Spirit of the Community.”

Police Departments from across the Commonwealth will be participating.

The parade is scheduled to kick off at 11 am Saturday, March 9th at the Bass River Sports World on Long Pond Drive in Yarmouth and run for about two miles along Route 28 ending at the Town and Country Motel.
