State Agencies Receive Almost $300K to Protect and Restore Wetlands

BOSTON – The EPA has awarded more than $1.3 million to New England States to help protect and restore wetlands.

Almost $300,000 will be dispersed in Massachusetts to the Department of Environmental Protection, the Coastal Zone Management Office and UMass Amherst.

The DEP was awarded $75,000 to align the state’s stormwater standards with the EPA.

Coastal Zone Management was awarded over $73,000 to use modeling data to characterize coastal wetland migration corridors and use the information collected to improve land use planning efforts.

UMass will receive more than $148,000 to collect wetlands data during critical times and test the potential use of censors to assess vegetation health and physical characteristics of salt marshes.
