SANDWICH – The state Department of Transportation says they will be putting up additional guardrail along Route 6.

The announcement comes two days after a fatal accident on the highway after a truck crossed the median and struck a car traveling westbound. State officials have confirmed that some trees were cleared in the area where the truck crossed the median.

“We’re going to de-emphasize the wholesale clearing and thinning that we’ve done, and instead of that, we’re going to shift the money that would have gone towards that and we’ll be funding the additional segments of guardrail through that,” said MassDOT Spokesman Mike Verseckes.

Centerville resident Lawrence Barros, 32, was killed in the accident. The driver of the truck, Michael Dalto, 45, of East Bridgewater, was taken to Cape Cod Hospital with minor injuries.

No announcement has been made yet on whether charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
