State Delays Opening of Recreational Pot Sales in Wareham Until Friday

WAREHAM – Cannabis lovers on Cape Cod and the South Coast looking forward to the opening of recreational marijuana sales at Verilife in Wareham on Tuesday are going to have to wait just a little bit longer.

The Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission announced Monday that Verilife will be able to open its doors as early as Friday, December 21.

Due to an “unexpected delay at the state level,” Verilife had to delay its scheduled opening.

“We had an unexpected delay at the state level, but the Commission has been very responsive and great to work with thus far,” said Shelley Stormo, the executive director of Verilife.

Verilife is located at 112 Main Street in Wareham. The business had its final state inspection on Wednesday, December 12, to which the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission issued a notice to commence full operations.

Verilife had been expecting a massive turnout for the originally scheduled opening on Tuesday.

Stormo had collaborated with town officials and the Wareham Police Department to combat traffic congestion by requiring all customers to park at the Water Wizz parking lot on Cranberry Highway before boarding a shuttle over to Verilife.

“We will line people up at the parking lot, help them to make a profile so they can make a purchase at our store. We’ll be verifying identification in the parking lot as well as in the store. Nobody under the age of 21 is allowed in the store, of course,” Stormo said on Friday.

Verilife planned to have expanded hours on Tuesday with doors open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. After the first few days, Stormo said the store would turn over to its normal operating hours of Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon through 6:00 p.m.

It is unknown whether different measures will be undertaken on the rescheduled opening day.
