State Fire Marshal Issues Warning on Pool Chemicals

pool guyPROVINCETOWN – Massachuetts Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan has issues warnings about the use of pool chemicals after an incident in Provincetown earlier this month.

Chemicals should be kept in a shed or pool house.

They can become hazardous when they are improperly mixed, or if they get wet or damp, and caps should be kept on the chemicals at all times.

Approximately 5,000 people across the country are hospitalized as a result of the mishandling of pool chemicals, according to Coan.

More information is available on the Fire Marshal’s website.

In Provincetown, a pool owner left open chemicals outside in the rain and a chemical cloud drifted to a neighboring property.

More information on chemical safety is available on the Fire Marshal’s website.
