State Officially Approves 4Cs Funeral Service Program

WEST BARNSTABLE – The Massachusetts Board of Higher Education officially approved a new Associate in Science in Funeral Service degree program for Cape Cod Community College this week.

The program, which will be offered entirely on the campus of Bridgewater State University, begins in September.

Prospective students can apply now for the program and receive guaranteed acceptance.

Students will only be required to be on campus at BSU two days a week. This allows a flexible schedule for working adults to balance work, life, and higher education.

The college is also providing a live streaming option, which will allow classes to be brought directly to students if they cannot be on campus. Students in the program will also have access to BSU’s on-campus amenities, including housing.

“We are proud to now be the only state college in Massachusetts approved by the Board of Higher Education to deliver this program,” said John Cox, President of Cape Cod Community College.

“Our College, and our future Funeral Service students, are deeply grateful to the Board for their support, and to the dedicated faculty and members of College leadership who helped get this program ready to launch.”

Cox said it is uncommon for a  program to be developed and approved in less than a year.

“This approval is groundbreaking, and is a testament to their hard work,” he said.

The college received state approval in July to carry on Mount Ida College’s Funeral Service program after the school’s abrupt closure last May.
