BOURNE – A State Police Bomb Squad Unit control detonated a device found this afternoon on Sagamore Beach.
The Bourne Fire Department responded to 93 Philips Road around 4:45 p.m. after a call reporting a suspicious device found on the beach, according to Bourne Fire Deputy Chief David Pelonzi.
Fire crews cleared the area and called the State Police after markings found on the device read flammable and phosphorus.
Pelonzi described the device as a canister three inches wide and 20 inches long, which he believed to be a military flare.
The bomb squad unit arrived and relocated the device to Clark Field and detonated the device.
