State Rep. Randy Hunt Not Seeking Sixth Term in 2020

Sandwich State Representative Randy Hunt speaks on the house floor.

SANDWICH – State Representative Randy Hunt has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2020.

In a statement, Hunt said that it’s the right time for him and his wife Mary to turn more attention to their private lives and their family and that the timing is right.

Hunt has served as State Representative for the 5th Barnstable District for five terms and has served for 19 years in appointed and elected public service positions.

He said that announcing his intentions now before the election gives him more time to spend on legislative activities and constituent services and gives people interested in a run for the seat more time to organize and raise funds.

He added that he’s not concerned with becoming a lame duck.

“My role as a Republican in a Democrat-dominated legislature is to bring my experience and good ideas to the table and to be an effective advocate, something I have done consistently, having had a hand in shaping state policy in several areas,” said Hunt.

Hunt said he looks forward to having more flexibility in his schedule in 2021 and will continue being a CPA.
