BREWSTER – Representative Timothy Whelan (R-Brewster) has been named the 2016 Massachusetts Legislator of the Year by the New England Police Benevolent Association (NEPBA).

The NEPBA represents more than 3,000 police and corrections professionals throughout New England, including many in Massachusetts and on Cape Cod.

Captain Paul Larkham, Massachusetts Legislative Director for the NEPBA stated, “Through your position on the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security, and from your own experience as a law enforcement officer, you have worked hard to improve this dangerous job for our members and ensure they receive all the benefits they truly deserve”.

Having served 26 years in law enforcement, retiring as a Sergeant from the Massachusetts State Police, Rep. Whelan offered, “It warms my heart to be recognized by the NEPBA for my legislative efforts on behalf of the women and men who serve on the thin blue line.  I will never forget where I came from, and I look forward to working in the future with the NEPBA to ensure a safe and equitable working environment for our brave law enforcement officers who keep our communities and Commonwealth safe”.

The NEPBA annual awards dinner is scheduled for September in Marlborough.
