YARMOUTH – Second Barnstable State Representative Will Crocker viewed the areas of damage in Yarmouth and Dennis with Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito after yesterday’s major storm.
He, along with State Representatives Tim Whelan and Sarah Peake and State Senator Julian Cyr have been in contact with their officials on the town and state level to make sure they can optimize what can be done and get the resources needed to fix the situation.
“This is the summertime, this is the time where the Cape makes a bulk of its money and we need to be open for business, but we also need to be assured that we have safe operations,” said Crocker.
Crocker adds that resources and agencies taking part in the clean-up and recovery after the storm have pledged to Crocker and Polito that they will do everything they can do get things up and running as soon as possible.
He calls the news that no one was injured during yesterday’s storm as “miraculous” and said it’s unusual to see this weather occurrence on the Cape.
“This doesn’t happen on Cape Cod,” said Crocker. “We don’t get tornadoes. We’re more used to Nor’easters, snow storms and hurricanes, but tornadoes that is something that is an absolute rare occurrence on Cape Cod.”
Only three tornadoes had been recorded previously in the Cape’s history, according to the National Weather Service, with the last touchdown in Woods Hole last October.
