State to Hold Cape Cod Hearing on Eversource Rate Increase Proposal

HYANNIS – The Department of Public Utilities will hold a public hearing next month to take comment on revisions to Eversource’s rate increase proposal.

The utility company’s plan would increase Massachusetts electricity rates by nearly $300 million over four years.

The company proposed raising rates by $96 million for its 1.4 million Massachusetts customers in the first year, and by $50 million in each of the following four years.

If approved, the new rates would take effect in 2018.

A revised June 1 filing indicates Eversource would add $17 million in charges each year to Eastern Mass. residential customers to cover customers in Western Massachusetts.

The public hearing will take place on August 2 at 7 p.m. in the Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College.
