HYANNIS – One of the Cape’s largest health centers held a ribbon cutting Thursday at its new offices on Attucks Lane in Hyannis.

Harbor Community Health Center Executive Director Nancy Bucken explained how the clinic has grown over the ten years it has been open.

In the move, the center went from 6,900 square feet to 20,000 square feet, from seven medical exam rooms to 16 and from six dental opertories, which are dental chair areas, to 8.

The staff has also grown. It began with one physician and has grown to 10 providers–five physicians and five nurse practitioners. They started with one dentist who volunteered the first year and now there are 12 dental providers.

State Representative Cleon Turner and State Department of Public Health Commissioner Cheryl Bartlett cut the ribbon at the new Harbor Community Health Center facility.

The state’s Department of Public Health Commissioner Cheryl Bartlett was among the top health officials at the ribbon cutting.

Bartlett said of community health centers, “They really serve the populations. They really provide comprehensive care and actually I think community health centers were once places where people who couldn’t find care went to and now I think they’re really becoming the model of care.”

The center is a public health agency committed to providing comprehensive health care to residents of Cape Cod and offers access to comprehensive family medicine and dental care.

Board Chair Mary McCarthy and President and CEO Daniel J. Driscoll will be on hand to offer a few remarks and welcome guests.

Designed by architectural firm Perkins & Will of Boston with construction overseen by Delphi Construction, Inc. of Mashpee, the interior decor of the health center’s newly refurbished site features an ocean-based theme, with a blue and green color scheme and wavy glass and tile work.
