State’s Unemployment Rate Ticks Up, but More Jobs Added

unemploymentBOSTON (AP) — State officials are reporting a slight uptick in the unemployment rate in Massachusetts even as the state continues to gain jobs.

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said Thursday the jobless rate rose to 4.7 percent in November, up from 4.6 percent in the previous month. Massachusetts remains below the national rate of 5 percent in November.

Preliminary estimates from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics show the state gained 5,900 jobs last month and has picked up 67,700 so far this year. With one month remaining, officials say the state has now exceeded the total of new jobs for all of 2014.
