HYANNIS – The Steamship Authority announced the winners of their inaugural art contest at a reception at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum on Thursday.
The contest was open to kids in grades K-12 living in Falmouth, Woods Hole, Hyannis, New Bedford, Fairhaven, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard.
Following a round of judging by a panel of experts, thirteen submissions were selected to be showcased in a 2017 calendar, with one image for each month and one for the cover.
Falmouth High School student Elizabeth Bressoud’s art piece was selected as one of the 13 submissions.
“My art teacher told me on the last day of school and it was kind of a rushed thing, so I actually did it in 20 minutes,” said Bressoud.
The winning artwork will be featured in the front Steamship Authority’s 2017 calendar and was exhibited at the reception.
Nearly 200 students submitted their artwork, which was inspired by the theme “Sail Into Imagination”.
“We just wanted to tap into the creative side of some of our younger customers,” said Kimberlee McHugh, Director of Marketing for the Steamship Authority.
