Steamship Authority Awards Contract For New Ferry

FerryMARTHA’S VINEYARD – The Steamship Authority has taken the next step towards building a new vessel.

The organization awarded a $36 million contract to a Louisiana company to build the new ferry, which is scheduled to be delivered in spring 2016.

The vessel, which will be named Woods Hole, will hold 384 people and 55 vehicles and will service both the Vineyard and Nantucket.

The M/V Woods Hole will replace the freight ferry Governor.
