WOODS HOLE – A Steamship Authority vessel that has been plagued by electrical trouble in recent days is now headed in for repairs.
The M/V Martha’s Vineyard lost power on a trip between the island and Woods Hole over the weekend and experienced a generator issue Tuesday night. The Steamship Authority has taken the vessel out of service and has sent her to its Fairhaven maintenance facility.
The M/V Sankaty will take over the runs usually handled by the M/V Martha’s Vineyard, meaning vehicle transport to and from the island may be affected because the Sankaty is a smaller vessel and does not have as much space for cars.
The M/V Martha’s Vineyard is expected to be out of service for up to a week.
The Steamship Authority said their engineering team will be working with the contractor that handled the recent mid-life refurbishment of the M/V Martha’s Vineyard to try and fix the problems.
