Stop and Shop Moves to All Paper on Martha’s Vineyard

EDGARTOWN – The Vineyard Conservation Society has successfully lobbied the two Stop and Shop Locations on the Island to discontinue the use of thicker plastic shopping bags that replaced thinner models.

The group says although the thicker bags are reuseable and recyclable they create many of the same problems that the thinner bags caused.  The group says the bags added to pollution and causing issues for wildlife after they were discarded.

VCS discussed their concerns with local management who then worked with corporate representatives, the company ultimately made the decision to move to using solely paper bags on the Vineyard.

Representatives from Vineyard Conservation thanked all of those involved for the new policy.
