MASHPEE – The first medical marijuana dispensary on Cape Cod has been open for a week and demand for the product is high.

Triple M opened its Mashpee dispensary last Thursday and had more than 300 customers over the first three days of operation.

Dispensary Supervisor Jim Vaccaro says the opening went smoothly but the facility had more customers than expected on the first day.

“We actually had to bring more product in during the day to make sure we were able to facilitate everything,” Vaccaro said.

The Echo Road dispensary is open Thursday’s through Saturday’s from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The dispensary had 35 customers in the first hour of operation Thursday, the four day the facility was open.

“The people that have been coming in are so thankful that there is a place now on the Cape that they don’t have to cross the bridge and make a trip someplace else,” Vaccaro said. “They’ve been very, very receptive.”

Vaccaro hopes to expand hours and open more days if demand remains high.

Vaccaro believes the importance of medical marijuana dispensaries in the state is being validated by the reception Triple M is receiving from its customers.

“The patients are telling us stories about how using this product is changing their lives,” Vaccaro said.

The company, which grows it’s product at a facility in Plymouth, offers various forms of marijuana, including smokables, vapors, tinctures and topicals. Triple M does not offer edible forms of the drug.

Vaccaro said the range of ailments for customers making purchases is widespread with conditions he never anticipated to be treated with marijuana. Those conditions have included Crohn’s Disease, epilepsy and autism.

Customers will need a state issued medicinal marijuana card to enter the building. The cards are issued by the Department of Public Health. Individuals can apply for them online.
