HYANNIS – Students at Sturgis West are moving into a temporary home for the next two weeks after an irrigation pipe burst over the weekend, cancelling classes yesterday.

The school will be moving to the nearby Hyannis Resort and Conference Center while repairs are made at Sturgis West. Faculty and staff have been working for the past three days to get the new set-up ready.

Classes resume Tuesday and students are asked to arrive at West as they normally would to collect materials needed through winter vacation before moving over to the Resort and Conference Center.

School hours are 8:20 a.m. through 3 p.m. through the next two weeks.

Town of Barnstable busses will be re-routed to the Resort and Conference Center, however CCRTA busses will still pick up and drop off at its normal location at Sturgis West.

All phone calls to Sturgis will be patched through to the temporary set-up at the Resort and Conference Center.

School officials say the actions of the Hyannis fire department, a disaster specialist company, and staff prevented what could have been “catastrophic damage” to the Sturgis West building.
