Sturgis West Students Settling Into Temporary School Setting

HYANNIS – Repair work continues at Sturgis West after a burst irrigation pipe caused extensive damage to the basement and first floor, and in the meantime, students and faculty have settled into a temporary home at the Hyannis Resort and Conference Center.

The pipe burst on a Saturday, sending school officials into a scramble to find a temporary space, and to limit disruptions for students.

“We were able to work with the (Hyannis) Resort and Conference Center to be able to procure enough space where kids still follow their normal classroom schedule,” said Paul Marble, Sturgis Charter Executive Director. “They’re still in a classroom that corresponds with every class that they would’ve had in the original building.”

The school will be at the resort center for the rest of the calendar year, and are expected to be able to return to Sturgis West after winter vacation.

Fixing water damage on the first floor of the building is the emphasis in order to reopen the school, and repairs to the basement which is mainly used for storage will be ongoing.
