CHATHAM – First Night Chatham buttons have sold out all 24 years of the event, so this year organizers are reaching out early to remind people to buy their buttons to the popular New Year’s Eve event.

This year’s theme is Sandcastles by the Sea and there will be a giant sand sculpture constructed in front of the Chatham Community Center.

Nancy and David Wilber, who are on the publicity committee for First Night Chatham, say there are a number of special things planned this year.

Among those is a troupe of Chinese Folk Art Dancers, who are appearing for the first time at First Night Chatham.

There will also be events that are part of the festivities every year, including the traditional Noise Parade and two sets of fireworks, one at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Field and one at midnight over Oyster Pond.

A circus for children is just one of the many activities during First Night Chatham.

The midnight fireworks includes the traditional–for Chatham–dropping of the cod.

First Night Chatham features entertainment for children, teens and adults, with a focus on music. The full schedule can be found at www.firstnightchatham.com.

The festivities begin with the Town Photo at noon, in which anyone–local or visitor–can participate. There are numerous afternoon events.
