HYANNIS – Consumers will begin to hear about a new kind of credit card that is coming to Cape Cod, one that helps protect against credit card fraud.

Credit card fraud is becoming more and more rampant, from individuals having their card number taken and used elsewhere to entire businesses having their records hacked, leaving thousands of customers’ information vulnerable to thieves.

EMV chip technology, also referred to as smart chips, are cards that claim to offer an enhanced security against counterfeiting or cloning.

“Chip and signature” is becoming the standard authorization process in the US. This standard is different than the “Chip and PIN” standard used in much of the rest of the world. But many frequent travelers find these so-called smart chip cards more easily accepted overseas, according to a creditcards.com, a website for credit cards.

Listen below to hear Joe Forgione of Transaction Resources in Brewster, a local expert on credit card fraud, talk about how consumers and business people can protect themselves from fraud.
