HYANNIS – Housing Assistance Corporations’ first-ever inaugural Cape Cod Quahog Challenge will take place this afternoon at Trader Ed’s in West Yarmouth.

The contest to find out which local restaurant makes the best stuffed quahog on Cape Cod takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the harborfront venue.

Trader Ed’s is located on 21 Arlington Street in West Yarmouth.

Seven Cape Cod restaurants and one caterer are competing in the challenge. The restaurants are Arnold’s Lobster and Clam Bar in Eastham, the Improper Bostonian in Dennisport, Lost Dog Pub in Dennis, O’Shea’s Olde Inn in West Dennis, the Pilot House Restaurant in Sandwich, Red Face Jack’s Pub and Sports Bar in Yarmouth and Spanky’s Clam Shack in Hyannis. The caterer is the Wicked Quahog in Falmouth.

Attendees of the event will vote on which restaurant makes the best stuffed quahog.

Tickets are $20 apiece. Children 10 and under get in free.

Housing Assistance Corporation of Cape Cod, which offers housing services to locals, is holding the event as a fundraiser.

HAC provides a range of housing-related services from developing affordable housing, to offering classes for first-time homebuyers, to foreclosure counseling. It manages rental housing and a housing subsidy program; and runs a home weatherization and rehab program. It runs a full service nonprofit real estate office. It also runs programs to prevent families in financial crisis from losing their homes. HAC runs the NOAH homeless shelter and three other emergency shelters for homeless families.

Besides an opportunity to try different stuffed quahogs—also known as “stuffies”—the Cape Cod Quahog Challenge will feature live music from Four Guys, raffles and a silent auction. Polar Cave Ice Cream and Narragansett Beer will both provide free samples of their products.

Listen below to hear Deanna Bussiere and Chris Kazarian from Housing Assistance Corporation and Billy Moore and Skip Secher from Spanky’s Clam Shack talk about the event.
