WEST BARNSTABLE – A trip to this year’s Super Bowl will be that much sweeter for Cape Cod resident Don Cox and his wife Lindsay now that the Pats have clinched a berth in the big game.
Cox was given Super Bowl tickets by the New England Patriots earlier this month in recognition of his work with the Cape Cod and Massachusetts Military Foundations.
The Foundations support the families of those on active duty as well as veterans who need their help.
According to www.patriots.com, Cox thought he was originally going to the Patriots Hall of Fame to talk about a game ball he donated to the hall.
At a game in 1964 at Fenway Park, Don served as the ball boy and at the end of the Patriots victory, then-owner Billy Sullivan gave Don the ball.
Don’s father, who was a huge fan of the team, held on to the ball up until his passing, and Don thought that other Patriots fans may appreciate the history.
The Patriots selected Don as the ticket winner for his tireless work with military service members and veterans in Boston and on Cape Cod through the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation.
Recently the organizations have been supplying food and other necessities to members of the Coast Guard who are going without pay during the government shutdown.
The Patriots will be taking on the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta on February 3rd.
